How do I wash my tape in or clip-in hair extensions?

Clip-in or tape in hair extensions have the advantage of being easy to remove. It is an operation that you can carry out in total autonomy. Once removed from your hair, all you have to do is soak the hair extensions for a few minutes in water with a mild shampoo. Detangling is easier when the extension is wet, so don't force it dry to brush the strands. 

The best way to dry your hair is to simply hang your hair extensions before placing them on a terry towel. If you are in a hurry, you can use a dryer after hanging the extensions, but avoid overheating the strands. The frequency of washing depends of course on the frequency of use of the extensions and the quality of the hair (1 shampoo per week is the right average).

If you use natural hair extensions wavy or straight, the application of a keratin-based protective care is recommended. This extends the life of the hair and makes it easier to brush.

How do I wash my "long-lasting" hair extensions?

Extensions intended for prolonged use and with a fixed hold (heated keratin for example) will remain attached to your original hair during washing. Extensions with loops (rings that enclose the strands on the original hair) guarantee a good hold but are more complicated to detangle. The fact that they are less attached to the original hair than keratin extensions means that you have to wash your hair straight to avoid tangling the strands.

Washing your hair extensions to prolong their life

Hair extensions need to be enriched in order to keep their suppleness and shine. Sulphate-free and vitamin B shampoos are very effective in prolonging the life of your extensions, but you can use your usual shampoo as long as it has a pH of between 5 and 7 (a shampoo that is too aggressive would risk damaging the glue points of the keratin extensions).

The use of a "protecting" spray allows you to give a final aesthetic and structuring touch to the hair of your extension, provided that it is of natural origin. However, it is important to avoid the use of hairspray and gels that are too abrasive, and not to hesitate to rinse your hair regularly with clear water, especially after swimming in a pool.
